The World Desperately Needs a Story

But are we telling it in words people can understand?

Where will you go when you need to make some changes......

Scenery and Rockin' in the Free World are both songs written by Neil Young. Both lament the apathy of the American culture and the church towards its willingness to help the rest of the 94% of the world who go to bed hungry every night. He asks on behalf of himself and those stuck: "Where will you go when you want to make some changes?" Not to the church, that is for sure. You have to measure up before you can get in. So where do all the seekers go? To Neo-pagan or New Age Religions. Home of the Brave is nothing but millions of media image slaves so shaped by their own culture they don't recognize the gospel of Jesus, the gospel of the Kingdom. Instead it is a gospel of nationalism, patriotism, individualism, consumerism, and rationalism- a reductionistic gospel modelling corporate success Jesus never sanctioned or would hardly even recognize. This gospel is a modern enlightenment version. What happened to the upside down Kingdom of Matthew 5-7?

Rockin' in Free World is another song written to remind Americans that they seem fine to just go about their lives with out a care (Just go about Rockin' and enjoying our freedom) while our urban areas are full homeless people, drugs, poverty, and hurting people. Neil's satire of just Rockin' in Rree World while the world goes to hell in hand basket speaks volumes. Too bad our preachers don't listen to Neil Young. He seems to understand how Christ's gospel should work out.

Home of the Brave, Where Greed and Lust.....

Scenery

Looking at the grave

At the scenery around you
Home of the brave
Sometimes they leave you like they found you
Sometimes they worship you
Sometimes they tear your houses down
Sometimes they comfort you
Sometimes they spread your life around

Nothing you can see that they won't try to give you
Land of the free where the legend will outlive you

When you earn their trust
Then you are truly in danger
Where greed and lust have never been a stranger.

Home of the brave
That’s’ where heroes need protection
Media image slaves live by random selection

You sell your heart, but that's not the price of freedom Where things are useful only when you need them

Where will you go when you need to make some changes
Who will you love in a world of constant strangers
I'll go with you if you want to take a hero home
I'll stay behind if you want to take a hero home

Looking at the grave
At the scenery around you
Home of the brave
Sometimes they leave you like they found you
Home of the brave... (6x)

Keep On Rockin' in the Free World

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like satan, but i am to them
So i try to forget it, any way i can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
